Caramel Apple Sheet Cake

Caramel Apple Sheet Cake with its chopped apples, a hint of cinnamon, and caramel topping is a wonderful celebration of autumn.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cup plus 2 T. flour
  • 2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp Saigon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 Nature's Yoke eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cup chopped Fuji apples

FROSTING INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 6 tbsp milk
  • 3 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla
  • 1/2 cup caramel topping

Instructions
 

  • In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar and cinnamon.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine butter, water and shortening. Bring to a boil.
  • Add sauce to flour mixture and mix together. Add buttermilk, baking soda, eggs and vanilla in that order, mixing in between each addition.
  • Stir in apples.
  • Pour batter in 15 x 13 greased jelly roll pan. Bake at 400 degrees F. for 20 minutes. Let cool for 10-15 minutes.

FROSTING DIRECTIONS:

  • While cake is cooling, combine butter and milk in microwave safe bowl. Heat until butter is melted.
  • Add the rest of the frosting ingredients and mix until smooth.
  • Spread frosting evenly over cooled cake.
