Nature’s Yoke Legacy Free-Range Eggs have been part of families’ lives for decades.
These free-range hens are raised on Certified Humane family farms, which means there are no cages and the hens have access to pasture-like outdoor spaces for at least 6 hours per day. Except, of course, when it’s very cold or hot outside.
When our hens are indoors, they also get the extra special care that Certified Humane requires, with roomy nesting boxes, places to perch and no overcrowding.

What are free-range chicken eggs? And what does free-range actually mean? Well, it depends.
The reality is that not all free-range hens have the same latitude in terms of space as our Legacy free-range hens do.
The generally accepted standard for free-range states that free-range eggs must come from hens that have some kind of outdoor access. But the quality of the outdoor area or how long each day the hens are able to go outdoors is not specified.
This is why we made the decision to partner only with free-range family farms that have earned the Humane Farm Animal Care (HFAC) Certified Humane designation.
Certified Humane requires at least two square feet of outdoor space per hen. The outdoor space must be covered in vegetation, and the hens must be able to go outdoors (if they choose to) for at 6 hours per day. Additionally, Certified Humane requires comfy indoor spaces with elevated perches and roomy nesting boxes.
Because we care so much about the kind and ethical treatment of animals, our free-range hens have pasture-like outdoor spaces where they can enjoy the sun, as well as nibble on a variety of plants and insects. Their indoor spaces meet all of Certified Humane’s standards too.
It’s this natural environment that is designed to give Certified Humane free-range eggs a better nutritional profile, and we even test our eggs to check in on their nutrient density.

Because our free-range hens do spend time outdoors, they get to eat a variety of plants and insects, along with their well-balanced feed. It’s this total diet that gives their free-range eggs a slightly better nutritional profile than conventional eggs.
